Risk Assessment & Planning

Risk Assessment:

Health & Safety Research:

As well as Risks that are involved with the darkroom, there are also some health and safety rules.

  1. Keep the area clean. -  This, it will prevent any tripping hazards.
  2.  Don't eat/drink in the darkroom. -  Chemicals can contaminate food and drink therefore causing you to ingest them.
  3. If you suspect or know you're pregnant, do NOT enter. This is because although it may not cause problems for us, it may cause complications with an unborn child.
  4. Check if the chemicals that you are using are not contaminated by anything. This can cause problems with you developing your images.
  5. Have any equipment you know you need at hand. This will save time and give you a less chance of tripping/getting injured.
  6. Finally, Wash hands before leaving the darkroom. This will prevent you ingesting any unknown chemicals that have made their way onto your hands.
Planning:

For my colour shoot, I plan to go to Leeds with a few friends. As its colour and with the Christmas fairs going on, it will be a perfect opportunity to capture some beautiful images. Also, I will be taking some images in Bradford as well, just to give my images variety and different location.

Leeds:

My main focus for my Leeds shoot is Christmas lights. They contrast in festive colours to plain white.

Digital / Extra Photoshoot

Photographic Processing Laboratories- Wednesday task

Proam is a photographic processing laboratory where they process your images, including film and digital. They also do photo-art in which they manipulate your image subject to becoming something its not.

Photo-art-
When first coming to their home page, the deals they have on at the moment first appear. So, They currently have half price on their Christmas fairy photo's.

This is the example that proam have on their home page. This deal comes with The Professional Artwork, CD of all finished images, 5 print package with the measurements of 2-10"x8" and 3-8"x6" and it also includes 1st class delivery. The full package is £18.99

Film Processing-
On the Proam website, to get information about the prizes and sizes for film, you have to scroll to the bottom of the page. There are different prices for different sizes as you can see from the print screen of their website.

They also have additional information about the prices of returns, reprints and enlargements.

'All sizes of C41 process films can be developed and popular formats like 35mm and 120 (6x4.5am/6x6cm/6x7cm) & APS can be printed in the traditional way at very competitive prices. Older size negatives such as 110, 126, 127 and even 5" x 4" can be scanned first then printed.'

Digital Processing-
When first coming on the information about digital processing, the main thing I noticed was that they include all different clients they have. By mentioning this, it makes the viewer know they don't exclude them, even if they are armature. The prices range from the sizes of the images.

They also a link on this page that leads you to the price lists. A3 being the most expensive at 96p, excluding VAT and at £1.15 including VAT.

Dragons Photos Leeds are not only a photographic processing laboratory, it also sells camera's and film. Dragons Photos Leeds pride themselves in the time it takes to print the images you desire with it being the first sentence when clicking developing and printing.

The Price list is very easy to access and exceptionally easy to get the information you're wishing to get. As well as their price list, they include how long, roughly it will take to process. They develop and print B&W film for £4.99, 24 4"x6".

As well as developing and processing, they also have studios for booking. This page includes portrait examples, which is always a bonus, pricing, what's included and the length of the session.

Although I couldn't get any information for digital processing, I still think this laboratories website is one of the most organised and better quality of the others I've come across. The prices are reasonable and I liked the fact that they included more of one example of their work. It really allows you to see how they work with children, families and babies.
